Definition of Exposition Text
Exposition text is a text that elaborates the writer’s opinion on phenomena or issues without persuading the readers to do something.
Social Function of Exposition Text
To convince the reader that the topic presented is an important topic to discuss or get attention by providing arguments or opinions that support the main idea or topic.
Type of Exposition Text
There are two types of exposition text : Analytical Exposition Text and Hortatory Exposition Text
- Analytical Exposition
Analytical exposition text that begins with a statement that shows the author's attitude, opinion, or position on the theme being discussed, then supported by various arguments and closes with an affirmation or restatement of the opinion stated at the beginning.
- Hortatory Exposition
Hortatory Exposition is a type of persuasive text or oral material, often used to explain whether something should not be done.
Structure of Analytical Exposition Text
1. Thesis
In this part of the thesis, the writer must tell the reader about the main topic is going to write about.
2. Arguments
In this paragraph, you can find the arguments section. The author will write an opinion to support the main topic that has been presented previously.
3. Conclusion
This section is the closing paragraph of the article. Contains reaffirmation of the author's position and opinion on the main topic.
Structure of Hortatory Exposition Text
1. Thesis
Contains the opinion of the author or speaker regarding the topic in question.
2. Arguments
Arguments contain opinions that support the main idea.
3. Recommendation
In contrast to the Analytical Exposition text which has a Conclusion, this text has a recommendation section for the reader as the closing of the text. Recommendations contain suggestions addressed to readers regarding related topics discussed in the text.
Elements of Language Exposition Text
Using the simple present tense.
Many use conjunctions such as because of, so, therefore, the reason, and others.
Contains arguments.
Many use words that contain cause and effect (cause-effect).
Using vocabulary that is able to arouse the reader's emotions.
