Definition of Narrative Text

Reporting from the  Cambridge Dictionary, the definition of narrative text is a non-fiction story that can be in the form of myths, fairy tales, folklore, and so on. That way, narrative text is in the form of a fictional story (composition) that aims to entertain the reader.


Narrative Text Structure

1. Orientation

An introduction to the activities carried out by the characters in the story along with the place and time they use as a setting

2. Complications / problems

Explanation of the problems that occur in the article. Based on the form, complications consist of three types, namely:

natural conflict or problems that come from the forces of naturesocial conflict or problems that arise because the characters have different interestspsychological conflict or problems that arise from within the character itself

3. Resolution

The solution to the problem that arose. Completion can bring the story to a happy or sad ending

4. Reorientation

Using the past tense (except in conversation)Accompanied by an adverb of time (a long time ago, on a day, etc.)Conjunction of time (then, then, suddenly)Action verbDirect sentenceSpecific characteristics


Narrative Text Type :

Fable

Stories that tell the life of animals. Examples, The Country of the Mice, The Cat and The Rat

Legend

A story that tells the origin of a place. For example, The Legend of Prambanan Temple, Story of Lake Toba

Myth

Stories that develop from society and are generally considered to have really happened. For example, Aji Saka and Dewata Cengkar

Fairy

tales Children's stories or folk tales in which there is a miracle made by the author. For example, Timun Mas, Tumblelina

Folklore

Stories that are passed down from generation to generation and become a community tradition. For example, Malin Kundang

Personal Experience

A story about the author's personal experience

Love

story A story that tells (generally) the love struggle of the main character with the characters in it. For example, Romeo and Juliet

Horror stories

One type of narrative text that tells scary stories about ghosts and astral beings

Science fiction

Telling things related to science

Slice of life

A story that contains activities or stories that occur in the daily life of the author or imaginative character.

A natural disaster is a terrible accident, e.g. a great flood, a big fire or an earthquake. It usually causes great suffering and loss of a large sum of money. The casualties are injured or died. Some people are homeless and need medical care. Floods occur when the water of rivers, lakes, or streams overflow their banks and pour onto the surrounding land.
